I have seen many photos from The African Shop gorgeous maxi skirts from beautiful African Wax Print fabrics. Just when I decided that I wanted to order one of the skirts at nearly $100 including shipping, I noticed that the shipping and processing could take up to 3 weeks for the imported item. I decided to figure out how I could get a similar skirt faster and for less. Now, don’t get me wrong, I believe that greatness coast what it coats however I also consider that The African Shop would have only charged around $9 for the skirt to be shipped which leads me to assume that some of the cost of the actual skirt includes the difference in shipping. I have shipped internationally may times and it is expensive, but again this is an assumption. Another thing that I considered is that I may not like the skirt once I tried it on. I love maxi shirts and I love African print but I have never allowed the two to mingle within my wardrobe, so I wanted to be cautious because of their confusing return policy. Due to those uncertainties I decided that going local was the best route for my first African Print Maxi. I am so glad that I made that decision.
I contacted Ebony Harvey who is a fabulous seamstress to see if she would be able to create my skirt. Once I had my fabric she was able to create me a gorgeous skirt for a fraction of the cost and time. I absolutely love my new skirt. I still plan to order from The African Shop because they have some unique prints that I may not be able to find anywhere else, but for now I just need to figure out where I will wear my new skirt.
